School & Family

Parents who are involved in their child’s education raise successful, well-rounded young adults who are more likely to go on to higher education. We encourage all parents to take an active role in QP School through volunteerism! The parent-teacher organization works as part of the parish school community to provide enrichment opportunities to students above and beyond the curriculum provided by school tuition and to provide parents' assistance to the principal, faculty, and staff in carrying out school activities.

Every parent at QP School is a member of the S&F Association, which has a 17-member board. The board, comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators, oversees all S&F events, activities, fundraising and volunteering. Parent involvement and participation in S&F events is necessary to maintain and expand academic and extracurricular opportunities. Volunteer with S&F; what better way to meet other families and have fun?

The S&F board meets monthly during the school year, usually on the second Thursday of the month, at 6:30 p.m. beginning in mid to late August. Board meetings are open to all parents, faculty, and staff.

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad

Enrichment activities

Artist in Residence
This program brings professional artists and musicians into Queen of Peace classrooms to work directly with students and enhance their experience and understanding of the arts. This program creates hands-on opportunities for students of all grade levels to interact with local and nationally renowned professionals. For additional information or to volunteer, contact the committee chair.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation
This is an ongoing effort throughout the school year, and especially during staff appreciation week, to recognize faculty and staff. We may ask volunteers to serve breakfast, bake treats, plan a luncheon, or assist with other recognition activities. For additional information or to volunteer, contact the committee chair.

Class Coordinators
Homeroom parents are an integral part of making each school year special and fun for the students by helping teachers coordinate and/or carry out certain activities. These occasions include, but are not limited to, class parties, field trips, and special classroom events. It has been customary to have two homeroom parents for each classroom. Homeroom parents also purchase and coordinate the presentation of class gifts for the homeroom teacher’s birthday, Christmas, and Staff Appreciation Week in March. We ask each classroom family to contribute $10 per homeroom, which is billed through FACTS at the start of the school year. This amount is then passed along to homeroom parents, so they can budget for parties, teacher gifts, and other events throughout the year. There is an informational meeting for incoming homeroom parents in September. We review roles and responsibilities, answer questions, and offer tips to help make the assignment easy and fun!

Fundraising Events

Adult Social - November
The adult social is great opportunity for QP parents to enjoy an evening out without the kids. This event can take on a variety of themes. We need volunteers to help with set-up, the night of the event, and clean-up. For additional information or to volunteer, contact the committee chair.

Book Fair - December
We need volunteers to help staff the event and wrap gifts. Chairpersons work with Scholastic Books, the school librarian, and the Parish Center to organize the event. For additional information, or to help with our book fairs, contact the committee chair. For information about this company or to order online, please visit the Scholastic website.

Fun Run - April
Last year, our school combined a number of smaller fundraisers into one BIG EVENT. This event consists of running/walking/jogging and having fun while earning money for charity, our school, and wellness initiatives. We need volunteers to help plan the event, set up, run with the kids, mark the course, and clean up. For additional information about this fundraiser, or to help, contact the committee chair.

Community Dinner Nights
This is a school-wide event that helps strengthen our school’s sense of community. We ask families to dine at a local restaurant on a particular evening. A portion of the proceeds earned that evening come back to the school. For additional information about this fundraiser, contact the committee chair.

Parish & School Socials

Assist Parish with the Parish Festival - September
The well-attended parish festival is usually the third Saturday in September and offers live music, food and beverages, games, just-for-fun activities, and service activities. Members of the school and family association, education commission, and wellness committee staff the novelties tent, serving popcorn, snow cones, and ice cream. This a great school parent opportunity to support the parish by serving at this event.

K5 Potluck - September
In the fall, the 5K families meet on the QP playground/gathering space to play and socialize! Kids can play on the equipment, shoot hoops, draw with chalk, or blow bubbles while parents can chat. Families bring sides/desserts/drinks to pass, and pizza is delivered, courtesy of School and Family. After dinner, there are tables with simple crafts for the children to explore. Many of our kindergarten families are new to QP, so this is a great opportunity to meet new friends!

Family Dance - January
This is a themed family dance usually held the Friday evening of Catholic Schools’ Week (late January – early February). We need volunteers to help with set-up, decorating, clean up, and concessions. For additional information or to volunteer, contact the committee chair.

Pancake Breakfast - February
Enjoy Queen of Peace Parish's famous pancakes, sausage and applesauce, as you share breakfast with the community!

Adult Trivia Night
Come join the fun and test your knowledge at trivia night! This is a relaxed evening focused on getting QP parents together to have fun and some adult time. Sign up as a team of eight, a partial team, as an individual, or pair looking for a team.

Incoming K4/K5 Visit/Parent Coffee - April
Incoming K4 and K5 students will have a short classroom visit to help familiarize them with their new school. While they are having fun exploring the classroom and meeting new friends, parents can visit with current school parents to form friendships and ask questions.

Field Day - May/June
Field day is a day of games, food, and fun for the entire student body. This celebration is at the end of the year, and all participate as a single community in team-building exercises led by the graduating 8th grade class. The middle school teachers help prepare lunch for everyone. For additional information or to volunteer, contact the committee chair.

RAISE RIGHT

Raise Right purchases generate revenue for the school and parish. Raise Right fundraising gift cards are the same gift cards you would normally purchase from a retailer in your local area, and they work the same way. Our parishioners and school families purchase Scrip for full face value and receive full face value at time of use. Rebates are offered by the merchants vary, but range from 2% to 17%. A few are even higher!

This year we are highlighting the RAISE RIGHT app. The app allows you to purchase a gift card right on your phone, and have the store scan the bar code at checkout. No cards, no fuss, and an easy way to support QP!
